Relinquishment Policy |
|
Thank you for your interest in LIFE House for Animals. We only accept cats and dogs and only an Adoption Counselor is able to accept animals into our facility. If you would like to speak to a counselor about relinquishing a dog or cat to LIFE House, you may leave a message at 502-875-3436 or send a email to Mindy@lifehouse4animals.org. We are a limited access facility and there is a screening process for accepting a dog or cat into LIFE House. Therefore, same day relinquishments are not feasible. We, very often, are operating at capacity and have a waiting list of animals who would like to be accepted into our facility.
If you have found a stray dog or cat:
Take the animal to a local vet clinic to have it scanned for a microchip. Call the local vet clinics and provide the description of the found animal. Call the Humane Society and issue a found report 875-7297(PAWS). Place a found ad in the State Journal - the first three days are free. Check with neighbors and put flyers up in the neighborhood where the animal(s) were found, as well as vet clinics, Humane Society and LIFE House for Animals. If you are able to temporarily keep the found animal or if you are trying to find a home for a animal that you own: You may provide us with as much information as possible regarding the pet as well as a photo of the pet(s) in need of placement. Please email the photo and information to Mindy@lifehouse4animals.org. We will then place you on our waiting list and try to find a home for the pet. Other options:
Place an ad in the newspaper for the pet Make fliers and place them in local stores, businesses, and vet clinics Contact breed rescue organizations, if applicable (research on internet) If you are unable to keep the animal for any length of time:
Try to find a friend, neighbor or coworker who
is willing to care for the animal. Board the animal at your expense. Take the animal to the Humane Society at 1041 Kentucky Avenue. There is a $25 fee for each animal turned in. Additional Resources
NOTICE: LIFE House for Animals monitors its premises with video surveillance and holds the right to press charges if a animal is abandoned at the facility without following proper procedure.
